Fatal Crash I-40 Slows CMA Traffic?

MOUNT JULIET, Tenn. -- Interstate 40 West near the Mount Juliet Road exit was closed late Wednesday morning due to a fatal crash that involved a tractor-trailer.

Hazmat crews were called to the scene near mile marker 226 because there was a slow chloride leak. Authorities said the leak was no hazard to the community.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said two people died when a vehicle overturned at about 11:10 a.m., and several others were injured.

Authorities said a pickup truck was headed the wrong way on the interstate. The pickup truck collided with the tractor-trailer, and both drivers were killed.

THP estimated the scene would be cleared by 4 p.m. All lanes of westbound traffic were blocked, and eastbound traffic was slowed by rubbernecking. Westbound traffic was being routed off at Beckwith Road, exit 229.

The Wilson County Emergency Management Agency said I-40 West was closed from Highway 109 West to Mount Juliet Road and suggested using an alternate route, such as Lebanon Road.
