Along the light-dappled street of New Albany, Indiana's stately Mansion Row is the site of this week's Escape. Tucked away in the former mansion of a 19th-century Navy admiral is a room for two at the Admiral Bicknell Inn, steeped in tradition, yet affording all the luxurious amenities of modern day.
Open the doors, glance beyond the 12-foot ceilings to the original winding mahogany staircase that will lead you to your room, and set your bags down in one of the suites ($90). The Admiral Bicknell Suite, boasting views of the Ohio River and Sherman Minton Bridge, is home to a fireplace, king-size sleigh bed, and the bath still has the original clawfoot tub installed by the Admiral himself. The Cupola Suite is its own private hideaway, with a Jacuzzi tub and panoramic river views.
