Knox Ridley Dies

The former Smyrna Mayor Knox Ridley passed away Friday morning (8/6/2010). Knox and his twin brother Sam not only swapped mayoral duties during controversial earlier days of Smyrna politics, but the two frequently shared hilarious stories of their dating days when each would change places without telling anyone.
Knox Ridley’s political career began in 1948 when he was elected to what is now the Rutherford County Commission. He served as a commissioner for many years, and in 1973 was elected county judge, now known as county mayor. He was also a municipal judge in his hometown for a decade. Ridley retired in 1983 at the age of 64, but became Smyrna’s mayor in 1987 when his twin brother was force to step-down. Knox held that position until 1993.
Woodfin Funeral Chapel in Smyrna is in charge of the arrangements. Knox Ridley was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Miller Ridley. He is survived by sons Knox, Jr.; Thomas and William.
