M'boro Woman Accused of Taking $490k

BATON ROUGE, La. -- A Tennessee woman has been accused by a federal grand jury of embezzling $490,700 from a laborers' benefit fund.Theresa Waters, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., faces up to 10 years in federal prison if convicted of the charge returned Thursday in Baton Rouge.Waters worked for five years for the South Central Laborers Training and Apprenticeship Fund. The group manages retirement and medical benefits of laborers working for union contractors in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma.Prosecutors allege that Waters used a fund-issued credit card for personal purchases for nearly four years.The 45-year-old Waters could not be located for comment Friday.
