2 Critical After Percy Priest Lake Accident

Around 9:00 o’clock Thursday night, emergency responders rushed to Percy Priest Lake near the Hobson Pike bridge. Tennessee Wildlife Resources spokesperson Doug Markham told WGNS News that two boats met in what anglers call “Hole In The Wall” and had a T-bone crash in that narrow water passage. Ironically, there was a father and son in each boat. Listed in critical condition are 53-year old Edgar Ward, III and his 21-year old son Edgar Ward, IV, both from Mt. Juliet. In the other boat were 41-year old Kevin Meeks and his 17-year old son Austin. The Meeks are Smyrna residents, and they both were released from the hospital.

Markum said that it was not known whether the boats had running lights “on”, but in situations like this—“it happens so quickly that the lights would have no impact.” He did say that even though state law only requires that life jackets be worn by juveniles, that it is wise for anyone in a boat to always wear a life jacket, to always using running lights at night, and to be familiar with the waterways when traveling in the evening hours.
