Intl Folk Fest In Murfreesboro 06/18/2010

Musicians and dancers from Curacao, Slovakia, Italy and the U.S. frolic at a Barn Party for International Folkfest hosted on Tuesday night (6/15/2010) at the Shacklett Road home of Will and Mary Ann Jordan. The international folkloric festival, sanctioned by the International Organization of Folk Art, is financed primarily through funding from the City of Murfreesboro, Middle TN Electric Membership Corporation, the Tennessee Arts Commission, Wilson Bank and Trust, Tennessee Car and Van Rental, and the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.


The visiting groups continue their activities on Wednesday with performances for Boys and Girls Clubs, senior citizens groups, and civic organizations in the area. Central Christian Church will host the Ecumenical Service on Wednesday night at 7:00, featuring all foreign groups and the Bradley Creek Missionary Baptist Church #1 Choir from Milton.


Friday night all groups will perform, beginning at 7:00, at Patterson Park Theatre and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Vendors will sell their wares at Cannonsburgh and an Antique Car Show will be held as well. At noontime, special greetings will be brought by representatives of the Embassies of Curacao and Italy; Derrick Tibbs, representing Governor Bredesen; Murfreesboro City Councilman Ron Washington and State Representative Kent Coleman.


On Saturday evening (6/19/10) at Lane Agri-park, representatives of the FCE Clubs will give handmade gift items to all of the approximately 60 members of the three visiting delegations during the Farewell Dinner and Party. The International Folkloric Planning Society, Inc. will also present gifts to the groups and final remarks will be made before departures begin on Sunday morning
